Sergeant Angel M. Velez Scholarship

Thanks to the patriotism and generosity of Sergeant Velez’s sister, Rogerlyn Velez-Cipriano, her family, friends and the “Angels For Warriors Foundation” a scholarship has been established for a worthy Saint Anthony’s student who has made the decision to enter the military to serve the United States of America.

Sergeant Angel Velez was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he attended Catholic school. Upon graduating high school, he joined the United States Army as an Infantryman. His distinguished military career trained him for the “Global War on Terrorism.”

His numerous tours of duty included, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Battle of Fallujah, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan. After a long career in the military, Sergeant Velez returned to the United States in 2010 along with several comrades, all of whom were badly wounded in the line of duty. His physical challenges of recovery from multiple injuries, including traumatic brain injury were enormous and the psychological ones were just as difficult.

Sergeant Velez is married to the love of his life, Anne. While he is physically disabled, his love of country, service to country, protection of our freedoms will always endure.
